PE, Sports and Healthy Lives
"Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do." Pele
Our main objective is to ensure that children leave Harlowbury Primary School with a life-long love of physical activity to aid their long-term physical and mental well-being. We hope to inspire, through inclusive, high quality PE lessons, attending competitions and clubs, children to participate in different sporting opportunities and to learn skills of self-discipline and motivation, strength and co-ordination, team-work, celebration and evaluation.
We have created a curriculum map using the GetSet4PE Scheme of Work, with topic links made where possible. Children are therefore given a full and rich curriculum focusing on the key areas of gymnastics, athletics and games. Children are supported to be able to swim 25m by the end of Y6 through swimming lessons and promotion of free swimming lessons and we are connected to the training and networking opportunities through membership of the Harlow School Sports Partnership. We also attend an increasing number of Level 2 town-wide competitions, such as cross country, netball and athletics, which are held locally. We also endeavour to provide a range of clubs across the Key Stages to ensure quality-assured out-of-school provision, including a popular Change 4 Life club. The school Sports Crew has been established to promote healthy and active lifestyles, officiate at intra-school tournaments and produce a termly newsletter. Adults talk about and share their sporting achievements and interests to act as role models to the children.
Careful planning and monitoring of the School PE and Sports Premium funding is carried out regularly and the impact of different initiatives is evaluated. Children report that they enjoy PE (100% of children asked in Pupil Perception Surveys).
